In 2024, the VAILO Adelaide 500 celebrated its 25th anniversary, introducing the NAPA Speedway Sprintcars in the City as part of the celebrations. For the first time in history, a temporary speedway circuit was built in Adelaide’s CBD. Fans packed the temporary venue built on King Rodney Park cricket oval inside the Adelaide 500 circuit to witness speedway on a purpose-built dirt track, attracting a diverse audience of motorsport enthusiasts, corporate partners, and casual attendees.
This bold initiative, driven by the South Australian Motorsport Board in a collaboration with Sprintcars SA showcased Speedway’s versatility, engaging a wider demographic and elevating the sport’s profile nationally and internationally. The NAPA Speedway Sprintcars in the City has set a new benchmark, proving Speedway can thrive in non-traditional environments and bringing the sport closer to its existing and new fans.
