Sportsperson of the Year – Joel Berkley – SSA Super Sedans, SSA Modified Sedans, SSA Prod Sedans (QLD)

After a stunning season across three divisions, Joel Berkley becomes the third sedan competitor since the inception of the Australian Speedway Awards in 2016 to claim Overall Sportsperson of the Year, joining Callum Harper in 2017 and Jamie Oldfield in 2021.

A National and state title in Super Sedans along with a host of blue ribbon event wins in addition to multiple victories and podiums in Production and Modified sedans established him convincingly as the Sedan Competitor of the Year, however it was Joel’s overall presence in the sport that clinched the Overall Sportsperson of the Year.

Despite racing over 50 nights this season, the Maryborough based 25-year-old still maintains his own business Downunder Graphics that plays a major role in supporting racers with outstanding vehicle wrap design and application, while also sponsoring clubs and venues with signage and trophy design and supply that have set a new standard in award presentation.

In an aggressive sport built on fierce rivalry, somehow Joel still maintains the respect of his piers and fans cementing him as our sport’s Best and Fairest for 2024-25, and Australian Speedway’s Overall Sportsperson of the Year
