Open Wheel Competitor of the Year – James McFadden – Sprintcars (VIC)

Returning to Australia in dominant form for the 2024-25 season, James McFadden made history by being the first driver to win both the Australian 410 Sprintcar Championship and the Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic in the same season since Garry Rush in 1990.

JMac also claimed the Kings Challenge for a fourth time, and sealed the WA Title for the second time in front of his crew chief and new team’s home crowd.

Away from the track, James has become a mentor to many racers, volunteering for junior development events and helping new people to the sport with car setup and safety, and at just 36 years of age has become a trusted advisor to other competitors who he may notice struggling at an event, or anyone needing guidance, while still making time to prioritize media engagements to promote the sport.

Since first winning this award in 2017, James has become an established name in international Sprintcar racing, and immediately on his return to living in Australia, has regained the crown as Australian Speedway’s Open Wheel Competitor of the Year.
