The late Peter Aylett will be remembered as an icon of Australian Speedway Sedan racing, especially in his beloved home state of Tasmania.

Ironically starting his foray into dirt track racing as a spectator, Peter heard the call over the PA that there was a vacancy for a swinger on a sidecar to race that night, so promptly jumped the fence to make his racing debut!

Peter and his wife Judy raced in every state of Australia, claiming the 1986 Australian Super Sedan championship, three Tasmanian titles, and multiple Grand Prix, Grand National and Fireball Derby wins, as well as a famed Jacko award for best and fairest in the nation.

As a founding member of Latrobe Speedway, he was a cherished inspiration to countless racers and fans, and after retiring from racing, contributed as a mechanic, administrator, promoter, track curator, and even as a commentator.

Peter’s most prized role however was as Crew Chief for his two great-granddaughters in their entry into speedway karting, starting four generations of racers in the Aylett family linage.

Sadly Peter passed away in June of 2021, leaving behind an inspirational legacy of passion for speedway racing.
